CONTEMPORARY ABSTRACT PAINTINGS: THE PECULIARITIES OF THE “CATHARSIS” SERIES
This series created between 2003 and 2005 was a revelation for me. When I created each of the paintings, I freed myself from pre-conceived thoughts that I had been taught. I succeeded, as never before, in attaining this feeling of freedom in my gestures which still serve me today, without restricting myself in my inspiring impulses. In short, it is through this series that I titled “Catharsis” that several barriers have fallen where I managed to let myself simply guide my instinct by exploring the colors, lines and textures. You could actually understand the pleasure that this introspection brings only if all like me, you make it concrete experience.
Catharsis, particularly geometric, with its multiple destructured forms reveals paintings overflowing with energy. It is for me a personal victory won by the desire to explore and create freely without a precise goal and to show my ability in the technical realization of a work. I am referring here to my academic training as a graphic designer by profession where one learns several techniques of drawings where the quality of the technical result is valued compared to the expression of his emotions in order to express himself through his creations. That is why when an image arises in the instinctive construction of the work, the rational enters into play and sometimes juggles with the lines to make it stand out … Unlearn to be able to bounce better! Catharsis brought me this consciousness: ““My interior duality feeds me because even if sometimes, I feel great suffering, my instinctive side feeds my rational side and vice versa. It defines me and forms the synergy necessary to be the being I am, and paint with authenticity.”What defines me and forms the necessary synergy to be the being that I am, and to paint with authenticity. » Photo: Exhibition wall at the Galerie In Vivo, Vieux Montréal 2005.
